You might need to screw some springs out counterclockwise, but they all come out without messing with the camshaft.

Also, you can adjust the valves all the way down so the rockers come out (and go back in) easier.

I'm not really trying to clear up a smoke problem, just had some seals lying around, the engine was open, and my seals were 35 years old. Eventually it will have been a good idea.
