You can do yourself a lot of favors by running on straight diesel purge. It will clean out the injection pump AND it will tell you if the knock goes away. If it is injector related, the knock should go away entirely since DP is extremely high cetane number. If the knock remains or if it changes, it's a mechanical issue. The noise you have is NOT a lifter.
