The only front plates I object to, are where the grille is actually blocking air-flow to the radiator(s). My new C7's grille is blocked right smack dab in the center of it's grille. Yes, that hinders air-flow dynamics.
Your grille isn't blocked as far as I can tell on your vintage MB
. The vintages '60s through the '80s MBs our family owned, the frnt plate was on the bumper assy. Far below any air obstruction of the grille air-flow.
