Yet another tire question?

1991 300SL I'm the 2nd owner. The first owner mounted a set of Mich MXM ZR's on the vehicle. They are 5 years old and appear to have substantial tread left. But after sitting in storage all winter, they have taken on a decidedly harsh and thumpy ride, most likely due to getting flat spots from sitting. After about 100 miles, they don't seem to be "rolling out". My questions. Does the rubber age and get harder? Are they dangerous? Any possible remedies? Will they ever be round again? BTW I put 50PSI in while car is in storage.

Has anyone here any experience with the new Conti Extreme contacts? The reviews are good, but the tires are ridiculously inexpensive for a performance tire. "You get what you pay for" has never been more true than these days.

I've seen the other tire threads, so no need to reharsh all that. Just need to know about flat spots mostly.
