How do you quantify which oil is 'better'? Filter?

Is there any meaningful scientific evidence that any single oil is REALLY better? Filter?

I think the reason this is such a popular question is that NO ONE REALLY KNOWS...

I'm fascinated by this topic...there is never a conclusion.
