That sounds normal. When you apply force to a spring, it compresses proportional to its coefficient of ......duh...... springeyness. Someone help me with the correct word.

The shocks, which really are dampers, don't control vehicle height, they damp the oscillating motion of the springs, which are the true shock absorbers.
