The VIN will allow any MB dealer to run a master vehicle inquiry (VMI). The VMI will provide the engine number which will then make it possible to check the Service Bulletin to see if you have the affected balance shaft.

FWIW your car probably has the early production M272, which didn't have the balance shaft issue due to a different timing chain configuration......
