You got it right.
Broken a couple of these... always at the worst times too.

The first one broke about 6 months after I bought the car.
I installed the new part same as the broken part. Then that broke about a year later. Finally realized the original had been installed incorrectly -a tradition I had inadvertently continued.

Two things: Make sure the plastic push rod head is facing in the right direction. You can install it both ways, but the wrong way will put it at a slight angle and the force of your pedal pushes will be somewhere near the neck of the rod instead of driving straight into the cylinder. Second, spin the eccentric somewhere between maximum and minimum height before tightening up the nut.

From memory, the circular lip of the head (left side of the head in image 1) should be facing the pedal arm.


I keep an extra one of these things in my glove box now.
