Barry, I was a bit confused reading your post. But I think I know what you said:
- use MB transmission fluid
- check if dealer has competitive pricing for low ash engine oil.

Actually, if you check bebo, mb do provide a list of lubricants that meet their specs for both transmission and engine. It can sometimes be a bit confusing, so if unsure, using dealer supplied fluids is a safe bet.
