So much for the cheap route. Here's the scoop from Auto Meter:
Dear Dave,
Thank you for your interest in Auto Meter Products. Unfortunately, the
temperature gauge that you are inquiring about which is part #3435 is a
liquid temperature gauge. This gauge does not use a thermocouple probe
which is an air to air measuring device. Purchasing a thermocouple
probe separately and then attaching it to the #3435 would also not work
because the #3435 is a mechanical gauge and the thermocouple probes are
meant for electric gauges. The only other option that you have, is to
purchase any of our pyrometer gauges which utilizes a thermocouple
probe. The only disadvantage to this is that the readout would be from
0-1600 degrees. Granted you wont ever see anything higher than 300
degrees, you would essentially use only a fraction of the gauge dial.
If you have any further questions please feel free to email us back
here at Auto Meter. Thank you again for your support and interest in
Auto Meter Products.
Sincerely,
Mike Sueto
The Volve page had some great info, but no word on power gain - only intake temp drops. And that was a HUGE intercooler. Hmmm...
