W210 E300D ECU replacement

Hey everyone,

So, the persistent no top end power + CEL has been tracked down to a bad ECU. Car is a 1997 W210 E300D, so we are not buying a new ECU from Mercedes (for $1600 ), so I've found a few good used units on eBay.

The good unit I'm looking at comes with the ECU, shifter, ignition switch, and key. My question is, do I need to swap in all of these at once to make sure the car will perform correctly? Or just the ECU and key?

Or perhaps I would be better off sending the ECU out to get repaired somewhere instead of putting a good used unit in. Regardless, the car is not worth putting a brand new ECU into. I am assuming the car has a transponder key, but if I swap in the ECU it should work with the key from the donor car, no?

Sorry, I have had a lot of trouble finding info on these cars online. Kinda rare in the NA market.

Thanks,
Max
