What make of non-OEM boots split on your car? We should try and keep track of what works and what doesn't work.
- original OE boots lasted about 30 years
- one report was that whatever Cardon used, started to crack after 5 years.
- another report that Dorman stretch boots split during installation
- Other Dormans, started to crack after about 5 years.
Mostly from memory. Please correct if wrong and add more experience if you have it.
I like the idea of those Italian slit boots. Allows those who may balk at axle removal to get the car back on the road. Maybe good at least as a spare. We can make critical o-rings by joining ends with a type of crazy glue. Mind you, these boots flex a lot, so it would be a tough application for the glue.
You would think there would be a better way of covering CV joints!
