The main differences in the 3.0 and 3.4 is the calibration of the torque capsule and the RPM limit on the governor. The 3.4 is tuned for better low-down grunt and has a much lower RPM power band than the 3.0 does. Running a 3.4 pump in a 3.0 just results in a lower RPM limit and less "top end" power. I wouldn't suggest running a 3.0 pump in a 3.4 without reducing the RPM limit, that engine didn't gain the nickname "rod bender" for no reason.
