These aren't cheap cars to drive.

Are you installing gold plated parts? My experience is that it is reasonably cheap to maintain a CDI if you do your own wrenching. My CDI has 282k and I spent, may be $100 on oil change, or less on the car on maintenance last year. Granted, I spent $$$ on battery, new tires, glow plug controller, GP, engine mounts, conductor plate etc when I first got the car. But those are known issues from seller so the purchase price was adjusted accordingly. After that I spent peanuts. It has been super reliable.
