One of the problems with the red-light cameras is that they don't actually reduce accidents. People say they reduce the number of accidents, but what advocates of them don't include in the data is the number of accidents that occur outside the "box" of the intersection. These are the accidents that are due to people seeing a yellow light and slamming on their brakes to avoid the possibility of getting their picture taken. Patrick Bedard wrote a great article about this several months ago in Car & Driver.

I'm not even getting into the constitutional problems with the cameras.
