Does the car start easily, not have excessive exhaust smoke and make good power? If yes to all then I'd say no to the overheating connection? If no then maybe pump timing is off and I'm not sure if pump timing would make it run warm.

Have you checked the breather pipe and air cleaner for excessive crankcase oil?
