If the O2 sensor fails, the system thinks the engine is lean and tries to richen it. This could cause the engine to stutter, but so could a lot of other things. Vacuum leaks, bad sensors, weak injectors ... I wouldn't jump to a wiring harness without an orderly diagnostic process.
