I greased from about '08 to '14 in a 240D with a second tank and heat exchanger and supply line all heated by coolant. Since then I make almost 2x my average pay during that period and the price of diesel has been $2.2-4.1 USD. In '08 it was more like $3-5. In '14 I drove ~300 miles a week for work. In '15 that went down to 160, now it's down under 20.

Supply, ease of storage, use treatment, the economic case all matter. Fuel is a lot more in canada, yes?

Old home heating oil is an effective, if nasty smelling fuel that you can come by free from time to time. You will run into water and sediment problems. Better to discard the dregs instead of clog your filters.

I don't miss the mess, stress or rats at all.
