I don't think it would stay 3-4 quarts over, it would blow out the overflow!

I'd pull the drain plug and drain the tranny pan. Put a quart or two back in (you can recycle it you use a fresh, clean pan), then check and add until you get to the correct level Use care, they fill up fast.
