I'll try to attach a picture of our engine bay on our SL.

This is what i have found to be the best procedure and easiest.

Go to a coin wash. Spray the engine down with Simple Green. Let it sit for a few minutes. Don't spray on paint!!! Then blast it off with the power washer. Go home, let dry. Once dry spray components down with engine dressing or tire shine.

On the block get Mother's Aluminum polish and use elbow grease. You can get the block looking like chrome if you do it right.
