If its built into the radio you would lose that functionality.

Some mercedes have a dash switch for the antenna too. I guess it serves the same function but I am not sure.

The aftermarket radio will most likely have the antenna extend to its maximum length.

I think the only way you could make it adjustable would be to wire up some kind of switch/relay system to the antenna to allow you to adjust it manually to your liking.

But to answer your original question now that we have most of the info, If you change the radio that feature will be gone. Unless you can wire in some kind of external switch to serve the same purpose, but I would not know about doing this.

I never adjust my antenna, and personally I don't listen to the radio much, so in my case, I would want ti set so that I could lower it manually via a dash switch when I am not using the radio. but then again wiring it up would probably be difficult to accomplish and have it function the way I would want.

So for now, radio goes on, antenna goes up.

I have an Alpine Head unit in my car. the antenna does not go up or down because the internal relay inside the antenna is fried.

I will either wire up an aftermarket switch to raise and lower it, or I will replace the antenna with a new one.

Its a shame they don't sell the internal relay for my antenna. I would rather pay for that than have to pay $150 for a new antenna.

Mine is the tri band antenna with cell phone link up. I personally don't need anything but its use for FM/AM. so I might just decide to go aftermarket.
