On the older versions of the 124, it had a seperate antenna switch which would allow you to adjust the mast height of the antenna. Your 95 I believe has no antenna switch, antenna just raises or lowers depending on if the radio is on or not.
But again I'm sure the owners manual on the older ones tells you to adjust the antenna mast height to about 1 ft for better FM reception, for AM it should be all the way up.
