I got the same reaction when I told people I was flying out to Texas to pick up a car with 223K miles on the odometer. However, the gamble paid off exceptionally well, to the point where a friend of mine followed suit a week ago...

The funny thing is that it's not M-B that got me turned on to diesels. It was a combination of marine diesels (courtesy of the Scout unit that I'm with; mainly Screamin' Jimmys) and the Dodge Cummins' reputation. I came close to getting a '93 D-250 Cummins to replace my vah before I decided I couldn't afford the fuel and registration, so I decided to get the M-B instead (VW's get better mileage, but I hate aluminum heads)...
