The Mustang is what it is. A relatively cheap sporty looking car that can fit the bill of anything from cartin' Cathy to college to a full blown race car. It is by no means an exclusive car, but there is as much difference in the high and low end as night and day.
One of the reasons for the enormous popularity of the pony is that average people can afford to mod them up to a comfortable level. They are also disposable, but the ones that survive continue to spark interest in the breed. I saw a Mustang II not long ago that was sharp as a tack.
I curse the day that I sold my 69 Mach 1.
The halo cars coming out of Detroit now are showing the world that at least they haven't lost touch with the car buying public that needs more than shiney metal boxes.
