Cable companies are starting to offer integrated DVR set top boxes. You might want to check this out if you already subscribe to cable.

I'm waiting for Comcast in Dallas to rollout their DVR. From what I hear, for and extra $9.95/mo., you get a set top box that acts as a digital cable HDTV receiver and DVR. I think that's cheaper than TiVO's subscription rate, and you don't have to buy the box.
