Jim, luckily I jumped through all the hoops already so you don't have to figure this combo out. The proper setup to get a level/even ride, and enough clearance with 18" wheels for the E300 with Bilstein Sport Shocks and H&R sport springs is -

Front v8(E430/55) spring with #5 spring pad
Rear v6 (E320, E300) spring with #2 spring pad

As for the chipping, I simply removed the ECU, which requires a phillips head screwdriver and one torx driver, and takes about 3 minutes. I then mailed the ECU off next day air to Oliver at speedtuning. The next day he received it, chipped it, and next day aired it back to me. Got it 9am this morning. Gonna go for a drive now!
