I don't get it. Every year I celebrate Thanksgiving, honoring the Pilgrims who would weather the tough New England winter. And every Christmas, I'm overwhelmed with Currier and Ives snow-and-sleigh cards hailing the harsh New England freeze.

Now I hear Northeasterners complain about biting-cold weather during the dregs of January. What gives? It's SUPPOSED to be cold up there, just like it's supposed to be 105 degrees in Los Angeles each and every summer.

I'd like to hear from someone in Duluth, Minn., which got 19 inches of snow today. Now THAT's winter.
