The SLK is a brilliant car. My mother has had her 2000 SLK230k since new (just over 4 years ago). She uses it every day and has put about 50k miles on it. Everyone in the family is of the view that it is the best car we have ever owned. It hasn't depreciated much. It has been cheap to run, maintain and insure. It has never missed a beat. It is very safe (I know, I wrapped the last one round a tree). More importantly, it is a thrill to drive in the real world and a real, lasting pleasure to own. Driving it is something to look forward to. The performance is more than adequate; the comfort/handling balance is ideal for anyone who is not a racing driver; the sheer roadability of the car is of the highest order. It is also a design icon.
