Well, if you read the container MMO is in, it raves about the use in the crankcase. Maybe it is all smoke and mirrors... maybe not. I put in a quart last week in my oil change using Mobil Delvac 1300 super... for heavy diesel use....put it in my 98 E300dt with 90,000 on the clock. Damn if it didn't seem to run quieter. Maybe I heard what I wanted to hear. But, I have decided to drain it after 500 miles and just refill with the Delvac 1300...10W-40.
I think MMO psychology is to have you think a wonderful solvent is sloshing around in your engine dissolving all varnishes and gums, all deposits disappear, metal surfaces are bright and shiny etc, etc. Rislone seems to be very similar in their description of their product.
Larry Bible is probably right....frequent hot changes with a good grade of oil is probably as good as anything. But everybody out there is looking for that magic elixer for the gas or oil.
Maybe if I mix a little MMO, Risilone, red-line additive, ATF, cetane-improver, anti-gel, BG conditioner and JP4 jet fuel...shake it up, put it in a 1cc syringe, I could sell it for $19.99 as the ultimate diesel additive. So who would know?
