soy powered,
My refrence to bio-d was because I have not seen any studies on wvo and it's effect on engines. You are right in pointing out there are great differences between bio-d and WVO. My point was that you would have to tear up an engine pretty fast for free fuel to be as expensive as diesel. I haven't heard of anybody replacing an engine because of WVO.
I drive the Mercedes instead of the Econoline becuase of the fuel economy. If I wasn't paying for fuel, mileage wouldn't matter. Of course that little 2.4 is a lot easier to service, and used parts and engines are plentiful. When the 7.3 needed an IP it sat until I had the money for someone else to do it.
I could almost live on what my wife spends for diesel fuel. She burns about 10 - 15 gallons a day. Converting her Powerstroke is sounding better all the time.
