No one asked me, but I'll chime in anyway.
I respectfully disagree with Dr. Booth's stalwart opinion.
Just search for glowplug problems or air flow sensor devices. Other than that, I'm sure they're fine. The engines will certainly last 500K miles and beyond, that is, if you want to keep ripping out glowplugs.
BTW, the heads on the OM603 will NOT crack provided the engine has NOT been overheated.
Now, what do the new CDI's have in store for us? The worst I've heard is on the Sprinter vans, they shutoff for no particular reason. I guess an electronic glitch? The engines are still pretty tough, from what I've read.
Notice on MBUSA's website the writeup for the CDI....
"
3,222-cc DOHC 24-valve Inline-6. Cast-iron cylinder block.
High-strength aluminum-alloy head.
Reinforced engine block, oil pan structure, pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft."
CAST IRON CYLINDER BLOCK
no aluminum here
HIGH STRENGTH ALUMINUM HEAD
Thank God, no head warping/cracking!
REINFORCED ENGINE BLOCK, OIL PAN STRUCTURE, PISTONS, CONNECTING RODS, AND CRANKSHAFT
Alright!!!!! Its not going to be a 350!!!!
Is Mercedes trying to appeal to us dieselheads?
