I have recently purchased a pre-owned 1993 300E with 120K on it. (3.2L).

The one thing I knew it needed was a new power antenna mast. In doing the job today, after pulling back all of the carpeting on the driver side of the trunk in the "well", I noticed substantial rust. It looks as though there is a drain tube that is made to just drain into this well and then drain out of a hole. And I am sure that over time, it has caused seious rust issues.

So as you would expect, I am frightened over the purchase now based on the rust. Can someone tell me if this is "normal" for a 300E of this age? Is it something I should think about dumping the car over?

The engine is strong and the transmission is smooth as silk. I am just concerend over the rust.

Any words of wisdom?
