That's a particularly large investment to make sight unseen.
If the location of the vehicle being auctioned is close by, I would take a gander at it...and if I like it enough, offer to buy it from the seller right there...no e-Bay transaction to deal with.
For that matter, if I can't afford to lose the money I'm offering to bid, then I won't engage in the bidding process...
...that said, I would LOVE to acquire a vintage Phase Linear 400 amp...but that's another thread!
