You say the transmission is still attached to the engine? Did you remove the six small bolts into the flex plate? They are accessed through the front of the transmssion, there is a plate there. Take it off and if you strain to see there are three pairs of bolts. You would have to rotate the flex plate to get to them one at a time. Can take a contortionist and a very good swivel socket to get them all out. If they are still in there you should raise the rear of the trans up a some to take the strain off the front trans shaft, then start the unbolt procedure.
