The engine should start and run since the starter circuitry isn't influenced by a neutral start switch. Besides that safety feature, you give up reverse lights. I can't recall the last time I pressed the SDL pedal enough to engage the kickdown switch. I usually downshift manually with more predictable results. The tranny doesn't always think it owes me the favor of a downshift.
I think the problem will be rock hard redline shifts with no vacuum signal to the transmission vacuum modulator. Or does the manual transmission IP have a transmission vacuum switch thingy you can bring into play?
