I would like to know more about this OM616 turbo, anything that is more than the stock OM616 72bhp is of interest to me. Were you involved with the development of this engine?
I drive gassers here because of the nasty road tax structure for privately owned diesels(4 times more than petrol, which is already too much...), I have always wanted to go back to diesels, having driven 170DS(W191), 240D(W115) and 300D(W123).
Have a good week.

Hi Nachi,

As you may be aware, OM 616 is nothing but the OM 617 minus one cylinder. The turbo version has existed with MB since the 80s when it was developed to provide more power than the existing 72bhp commercial OM 616 engine. I was at the office of the Indian MB partner Bajaj Tempo where this engine was converted to Euro-I and was undergoing tests. It is a simple procedure to implement except the crank part. All the parts are from the existing OM 617 turbo except that the 4 cylinder existing OM 616 crank needs to be strengthened.
