Actually the Trabant was an East German version/cheapo evolution of the West German DKW. Was so bad mostly because of the "biodegradeable" cheesy plastic and cardboard body. A few of them were grabbed up shortly after the fall of E. Germany and brought over here for the curiosity. Also 2-cycle engines in the Trabbies did not lend them to being P.C. after the German re-unification.
However, all of the above still goes to prove the rest of your post about the Commie regimes.
