My mechanic uses KY Jelly to install rubber bushes. I've seen it and it really works. But I don't think it preserves anything as it probably has too short a life. Probably silicone spray work better. But when I do my bikes, they always say to use talcum powder on the inside of the tube and tires. My inner tubes last a long time with talcum powder. In fact, inner tubes comes packed with talcum powder I think.
