I googled "teacher survey" and "teacher complaint survey". Most of them are specific to the problems within a particular state, but the number one complaint seemed to be "Lack of parental involvement". I also noted that surveys in the big cities seemed to always have "unruly and disruptive students" as a top problem. Both of those indicate failures in parenting. We don't really have a problem with dumb students, we have a problem with dumb parents. I consider myself lucky - my grandmother was a teacher who taught me to find joy in learning, and my mom insisted on "reading time" and heavily policed TV time in general. My Dad loved science and taught me that ignorance is the biggest sin. I am grateful to them all.
