Same problem with my daughters 240D seperator.

But here is what I did. I purchased "Plasti-dip" and put 6-6 coats of it on the front of the oil seperator. Did it over Thanksgiving and its has held up quite nicely. I actually had a hole in mine and it sealed it up and provided a good cover for the front of the unit.
First I washed the unit with a good degreasing soap to remove the oil and then coated it.
