Yes, I do work on the car myself. However, sometimes certain circumcisions prevent me from doing so. For instance, when my oil needed changing, a job I have done too many times, and my pelvis was fractured, I brought it in. Other times I have brought stuff in was when I lived in the apartments and it was too cold to do it outside. I didn't always have a warm garage to work in.

As a rule, I bring it in for a trusted mechanic to work when I find that the job is too big to do in the garage. Some things you just have to bite the bullet. That or if I don't have the tools and I can't see spending money buying a tool I will need once in 20 years. Also, it pays to know mechanics that do work on the side.
