The cars I've seen there in wrecking yards had little evidence that they were maintained well (dirty engines, dirty interiors, high mileage etc) but maybe the nice ones were gone by the time I got there (the early Vulture gets a warm meal!)

I would have to agree about the incessant stop and go traffic although it usually lightens up slightly between 3:15AM and 4:00AM
Many of the older Benzes I have seen here LA don't suffer from mechanical neglect or interior wear or even rust...it's the body damage that they recieve from the formula one drivers that clip you at 80mph you on the freeways, drive in the shoulder, swing wide in parking lots, park by impact, kick open doors, jam a H2 into a motorcycle space, sweeping six lanes of traffic while on a cell phone, getting rear-ended from a woman fishing around in her purse which sitting against the passenger seat firewall! (true story

), and panic stopping for a flattened cardboard box on the freeway.....
It is very possible that the 300SDL is owned by a Pacific Palisades or Malibu resident in which the car really could be genuinely cared for. From the few angles it's most certain that the owner had a garage.
