I'm planning on putting the steel rims and hubcaps on my 85 300D too. I think they look more classic that way. My budnt wheels look awful though. When I get them off I will get them bead blasted, repainted and several coats of clear on them, then I shall see if I like them. The biggest thing is the perpetual coating of brake linings I can't seem to keep off for more than a few days. If they turn out good though I will have summer and winter wheels.
