Hi,
I currently own a 500SL from 1985, so the previous generation. Bodywork is poor, but V8 engine is so smooth. I'm keen to upgrade to a used SL500 from the 1990's (R129 series) but as I haven't test driven any, can you suggest how this model will differ from the previous generation? Also, how are the 4 speed and 5 speed boxes different in the R129 range? Can't see why this is such a big deal, as the box is automatic!
