no, you should not have to run a new wire for the antenna power.

Sounds to me like they did not hook it up correctly then.

do you have a dash mounted antenna switch? if so make sure it is int he right position.

I am usuing the factory antenna lead in my car, I do not have the antenna switch in the car like some benzes do.

mine goes up and down when the radio is on.
