w126 aluminum vs steel hood

I'm in need of a hood (and some other things... ) and I see that there are aluminum hoods and steel hoods for the w126 if I buy used? Which do I want? Is there a downside to aluminum other than cost? Or do I need to get whatever my car (1985 380SE) came with? Also, I see there is only one type of hood if I buy new. Is that one aluminum or steel? I probably wouldn't be in this mess if I had hit a car instead of an SUV (my bumper went under his SUV, the body of the car took the entire impact, luckily I saved one side of the car by trying to steer around while I floored the pedal...even though I was doing the speed limit and following a proper distance neither action was enough, I probably got down to about 5 or 7mph and if the front end of my car had turned right 1 more foot I would have missed him. I have to say, those crumple zone sure work because I didn't feel a thing, not even a jolt).
Thanks,
Richard
