I just did that job on a 83 240D. The replacement switch was about $65.00 but getting in there was a bugger. On mine someone had tried and broken that bracket so I wound up fabricating one with aluminum flat stock, pop rivits, and the plastic pieces. I couldn't figure out how one could get that switch out from behind there. sorry I couldn't be more help but maybe someone else knows the proper way. the new switch works nice and smooth but every time I touch it I remember the grief it gave me.
I didnt remove the radio but the switch panel above.
