I justr went through the same thing

Be very careful and do not drive the car with lugs that are too long. They will rip apart your emergency brake internals. My factory lugs were nearly two inches long.
It took a week to find the lugs I needed. I have a 01 E wagon (non 4-matic) and bought a set of 03 E class five star factory wheels. I found my short lugs (wheel studs) at Napa. Doorman is also a vendor that makes the bolts. 610-249 is their number for my application. I believe the measurements are as follows: 17mm hex headx M12-1.5 pitch x 27mm thread.

Do the spare tire lug bolt thing (as posted above). A general rule of thumb is: push a lug bolt through your new wheel bolt hole; on the back side of the wheel all you want sticking out (into the mounting holes) is aboutone inch of threads. I checked the thread length with the factory lugs (on the factory wheels) they turned eight times until they stopped (tight to the wheel carrier).

REMEMBER keep a set of five of your old lug bolts to use with your factory spare tire ! ! !
