MB are not cheap cars to modify.
Personaly I would buy the fastest stock car made then modify from their. I'd rather start with a 275hp V8 then a 170ish I6. Both are probably going to cost a small fortune to tune for a large increase in power.
At least with the 500E you have a better suspension that can already handle the power.
He didn't mention handleing and a stock W124 with a better set of tires can probably give his friends F bodies a run for their money. I would be surprised if its stock brakes were not also better.
