jsp, the throttle linkage diagrams are available at the skinnerbox site, under section 30, accelerator control.
Replacing the damper didn't really seem to do much; I don't think it's a critical component of the linkage system. The car ran fine without it for the first year I owned it. However, replacing the throttle guide bushings made a huge difference; eliminating the extra play from that part of the linkage made the pedal feel much more responsive.
